2021 Main Canal 1.94 Canal Shotcrete Lining Project, Benton County WA

The Columbia Irrigation District (CID) is soliciting quotes to perform the following work.  The work includes the concrete lining of approximately 300 linear feet of the Main Canal beginning near Mile 1.94.  The lining must be formed and screed concrete or shotcrete.  The minimum thickness of the lining material must be 4 inches.  The canal side slopes and bottom measure approximately 33 feet across.  It is anticipated the project will require approximately 200 cubic yards of concrete/shotcrete to complete.  Troweled in expansion joints must be installed every 12 feet.  All work must be completed no later than February 15th, 2022.

Contractor Responsibilities: The Contractor shall be responsible for the furnishing, placement and finishing of the concrete/shotcrete as specified by CID on the canal bottom, canal side slopes and in the cutoff wall trenches at each end of the lining project.  Where the liner terminates at each end and along the top of the side slopes the liner shall be finished to provide a reasonably level, straight line parallel to or perpendicular to the canal.  If shotcrete is used the shotcrete mix design shall include fiber reinforcement.  The Contractor will be required to provide the CID with a minimum of 2 weeks notice prior to beginning placement of the liner.  A mix design for the concrete/shotcrete shall be submitted to the CID for approval.

Columbia irrigation District Responsibilities: The CID will be responsible for all subgrade preparation and having the canal prism cleaned, shaped and ready for the Contractor to apply the concrete/shotcrete.  Cutoff walls installed at each of the lining will be excavated by the CID.

The 200 CY of concrete or shotcrete noted above is an estimate only.  Based on the dimensions noted above the neat line concrete/shotcrete quantity is 127 CY.  The total includes an estimated 6 CY for the cutoff walls located at each end of the project.  CID anticipates the actual average concrete/shotcrete depth will be slightly over 4 inches.  The CID will pay the contractor on a lump sum basis for the furnishing, placement and finishing of 200 CY of concrete/shotcrete.  Measurement of the placed material will be made using the material suppliers trip tickets which the contractor shall collect and furnish to the CID.  The Contractor shall apply a minimum of 4 inches of concrete/shotcrete but shall minimize excess depth to the extend possible.  If there is excess concrete/shotcrete available after the 300 ft segment of canal is completed additional canal will be prepared by the CID and lined by the Contractor.

A single payment will be made to the Contractor following completion of all work.  Material Payment and Performance bonds in the amount of 100% of the contract price will be required. This work falls under the State’s Prevailing Wage requirements.   The Contractor will be required to provide a Certificate of Insurance with coverage and amounts acceptable to the CID.  The CID shall be included as an additional insured on the Certificate of Insurance.
